SUMMARY:Gone Fishing - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Thursday\, May 4th 5:30 to 8pm  \n\n\n\nMusic Performance: Thursday\, May 11th 6 to 8pm during AHA! New Bedford \n\n\n\nThe title Gone Fishing suggest 2 things; to drop out\, day dream (and paint)\, or set sail and steam out to Georges Bank to fish. Troy has done both. Born and raised in New Bedford to 2 Norwegian immigrant parents\, who migrated to New Bedford in the 50s. Both parents come from a long history of seafaring people. Troy’s earliest memories were formed on Pier 3 and the shipyards of Fairhaven. Either tagging along with his father Captain Soren or waiting for him to return to port.  At the age of 11 Troy began going out to sea\, with his father during the summer. At age 16 he quit school to fish full time and did so till the age of 30.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile living in Boston\, at the age of 26\, Troy discovered the magic of painting and painted while fishing. At 30 he quit fishing to pursue painting full time. At 36 he moved to Paris to expand on his creativity. In Paris he painted on the streets and quickly formed a partnership with Gallery W\, who he has been with since. For the last 24 years he has produced a prolific body of work\, amassed collectors from all over the world and has enjoyed a successful career as an artist\, musician and writer.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHaving started his journey in New Bedford\, it is only fitting that he has come full circle to where he started. ‘In these paintings i seek to investigate the beauty of nature and man\, and honor our heritage\, while being inspired by the waterfront and its people. I am proud to be from New Bedford. Troy Henriksen

SUMMARY:Ann-Marie Gillett - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:“A flower is relatively small. Everyone has many associations with a flower—the idea of flowers…….Still—in a way nobody sees a flower—really—it is so small—we haven’t time—and to see takes time\, like to have a friend takes time. \n\n\n\n…. So I said to myself—I’ll paint what I see…..I’ll paint it big and they will be surprised into taking the time to look at it. I will make even busy New Yorkers take time to see what I see of flowers.” \n\n\n\n—Georgia O’Keeffe  1927 excerpted from Georgia O’Keeffe\, Viking Press \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI read that statement many years ago and it has been a constant refrain that takes on even more meaning as time passes. To take the time to see\, to observe closely\, seems to be an act that is becoming more compromised by the increasing allure of screens in our lives. I am not immune to the charms of the visual gratification they can bring\, but\, ultimately\, the need to pause and closely observe my surroundings is always the stronger instinct. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy work uses a variety of art processes and currently is often created with a painted tape collage technique that originated from a practice of masking out and building up surfaces while painting. I now paint artist tape in a variety of graduated colors\, patterns and textures and use them as my palette. Graphite\, colored pencils\, Posca markers and charcoal are additionally used to develop my images. Recently\, I have discovered cyanoptype printing and use that as a starting point for some of my imagery. The methodical cutting and arranging this technique demands complements the way I prefer to let an image grow organically and tap into unconscious influences. My work grows from my life-long fascination and close observation of the natural world with its ever-changing color relationships\, patterns and visual rhythms. Work is suggestive of my surroundings\, sometimes using color in way that reflects my emotional connection to a subject\, or is a more literal interpretation of my interaction and impressions of my surroundings. Ultimately\, I want my work to call attention to the small inconsequential things that can easily be overlooked and compel the viewer to see them in a new way.

SUMMARY:Rosebud - William Kennedy Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:For the ones who didn’t have a chance to bloom. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWilliam was born in Washington\, DC\, where his creativity started at a young age\, by simply drawing any and everything around him. Going back to his roots\, the streets of DC later became a focus of his art. As a self-taught artist\, he has been a freelance designer and illustrator for the past 10 years. He has most recently\, a little less than a year to be exact\, included Contemporary Painting to his long list of artistic talents\, which has now become his main focus.     A lot of his work focuses on urban culture\, aiming to explore the emotions of life using black figures\, with each piece having its own meaning. He has worked with various artists\, including those in fashion and music\, all over the world.Recent Work:  “The Box They Tried to Put Me In” Collection – exhibited at ‘Brick Lane Gallery’\, London\, England. “Fear to Tread” exhibition at ‘Roger That! Gallery’\, Bristol\, RI. “All Roses Aren’t Red” solo exhibition at the Co-Creative Center\, New Bedford\, MA. \n\n\n\n“The goal isn’t to only get my artwork on people’s walls\, but rather to open doors and show what’s possible to kids that look like me.”

SUMMARY:Co-Creative Sessions: Scott Sullivan Photography
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we we will discuss the various components associated with photography & producing high quality composition & work. \n\n\n\n\n\nChange of date: Now November 16\, 2022 \n\n\n\nThis workshop is designed to layout and discuss the concepts of photography. Through the lens of professional photographer\, former pro snowboarder\, surfer\, & lifelong outdoor enthusiast Scott Sullivan we will learn different styles\, techniques\, & composition associated with producing high quality images.  \n\n\n\n\n\nScott will discuss how his work has potentially shifted over the years\, as a travel enthusiast & soulful human being he will be discussing how his different life experiences have shaped his work from a traditional action & extreme sports photographer featured in such high profile catalogues as Surfer Magazine\, Snowboarder Magazine\, Transworld Surf\, Transworld Snow\, Surfline\, Volcom\, Vans\, Quicksilver\, K2 Ski & Snowboarding\, Stabb Magazine\, FuelTV\, & Teton Gravity Research to name a few...to a more conventional approach shifting some of his work away from the extreme sports world.  \n\n\n\nThrough his passions Scott has geared his work towards the extreme sports community. If they are a pro surfer or snowboarder there is a good chance Scott has shot them shooting & working with such figures as Dave Rastovich\, John John Florence\, Travis Rice\, Bjorn Leins\, & Nicolus Mueller to name a few. However\, Scotts real passion is working with others helping them discover their innate & inner artist within.  \n\n\n\nScott is the real deal\, a beautiful person inside and out and we hope you join and enjoy all that he has to offer.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCo-Creative Sessions is a free and accessible online series geared to enrich\, educate and connect creatives through a series of workshops and training sessions. New Bedford is the home of artists\, creatives\, change makers\, designers\, entrepreneurs and community enthusiasts and the Co-Creative Session embraces the pulse that makes New Bedford so unique while expanding our knowledge and connections! \n\n\n\nFunded by MassDevelopment/TDI and the Barr Foundation\, this program is one component of a broader “TDI Creative Cities” initiative to boost arts-based economic development. \n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/scott-sullivan-photography-part-ii-photography-lecture-series-tickets-332209205677\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScott Sullivan is a professional photographer living in Port Angeles\, Washington. Originally from Rhode Island Scott grew up surfing on the East Coast eventually making his way out west in his late teens.  \n\n\n\nScott\, alongside his wife Natalie and wonderul daughters (Flora & Scarlett) travel the world doing what they love to do – surf\, explore\, & be merry. Prior to living in Port Angeles Scott & his family resided in Encinitas\, CA where they still own a home. In addition to his photography work Scott is an avid musician playing his music throughout the snow & surf communities he has called home for most of his life.
