SUMMARY:I am not my season - John Jameson Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:In his first solo exhibition in over seven years\, John Jameson presents: “I Am Not My Season”\, a collection of over 40 paintings portraying the landscapes and seascapes of Southcoast Massachusetts. \n\n\n\n“I Am Not My Season” invites viewers to rekindle a mindful connection with the sublime spectacle of nature\, bear witness to the passing of time\, and find beauty despite encroaching climate anxiety. The lively\, realist paintings continue in the tradition of New England’s storied landscape artists (namely\, Windslow Homer\, Childe Hassam\, and New Bedford’s own Albert Pinkham Ryder). \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe show at the Co+Creative Center in historic downtown New Bedford begins on July 13\, 2023\, with an opening reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m and concludes on August 10\, 2023 with an Artist Talk and Q&A\, followed by a closing reception\, from 5 pm to 8 pm.  \n\n\n\nOriginally from Somerset\, Massachusetts\, Jameson is a contemporary artist working in New Bedford who focuses on seascapes and portraiture as his primary subjects. Strong emphasis on color\, boldly organized compositions\, and rich networks of textured brushwork are hallmarks of Jameson’s work. His paintings have been shown in Boston\, New York\, Newport (Rhode Island)\, and Kamakura (Japan). \n\n\n\nJameson received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and his Master’s of Fine Arts from the New York Academy of Art. He has taught painting extensively at various institutions around Massachusetts. He currently teaches foundations drawing at North Shore Community College and landscape painting and color theory for artists\, as well as figure drawing from sculptures\, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. \n\n\n\nVisit Jameson’s website for more paintings\, as well as short videos on his process. DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Thursday\, May 4th 5:30 to 8pm  \n\n\n\nMusic Performance: Thursday\, May 11th 6 to 8pm during AHA! New Bedford \n\n\n\nThe title Gone Fishing suggest 2 things; to drop out\, day dream (and paint)\, or set sail and steam out to Georges Bank to fish. Troy has done both. Born and raised in New Bedford to 2 Norwegian immigrant parents\, who migrated to New Bedford in the 50s. Both parents come from a long history of seafaring people. Troy’s earliest memories were formed on Pier 3 and the shipyards of Fairhaven. Either tagging along with his father Captain Soren or waiting for him to return to port.  At the age of 11 Troy began going out to sea\, with his father during the summer. At age 16 he quit school to fish full time and did so till the age of 30.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile living in Boston\, at the age of 26\, Troy discovered the magic of painting and painted while fishing. At 30 he quit fishing to pursue painting full time. At 36 he moved to Paris to expand on his creativity. In Paris he painted on the streets and quickly formed a partnership with Gallery W\, who he has been with since. For the last 24 years he has produced a prolific body of work\, amassed collectors from all over the world and has enjoyed a successful career as an artist\, musician and writer.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHaving started his journey in New Bedford\, it is only fitting that he has come full circle to where he started. ‘In these paintings i seek to investigate the beauty of nature and man\, and honor our heritage\, while being inspired by the waterfront and its people. SUMMARY:Ann-Marie Gillett - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:“A flower is relatively small. Everyone has many associations with a flower—the idea of flowers…….Still—in a way nobody sees a flower—really—it is so small—we haven’t time—and to see takes time\, like to have a friend takes time. \n\n\n\n…. So I said to myself—I’ll paint what I see…..I’ll paint it big and they will be surprised into taking the time to look at it. I will make even busy New Yorkers take time to see what I see of flowers.” \n\n\n\n—Georgia O’Keeffe  1927 excerpted from Georgia O’Keeffe\, Viking Press \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI read that statement many years ago and it has been a constant refrain that takes on even more meaning as time passes. To take the time to see\, to observe closely\, seems to be an act that is becoming more compromised by the increasing allure of screens in our lives. I am not immune to the charms of the visual gratification they can bring\, but\, ultimately\, the need to pause and closely observe my surroundings is always the stronger instinct. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy work uses a variety of art processes and currently is often created with a painted tape collage technique that originated from a practice of masking out and building up surfaces while painting. I now paint artist tape in a variety of graduated colors\, patterns and textures and use them as my palette. Graphite\, colored pencils\, Posca markers and charcoal are additionally used to develop my images. Recently\, I have discovered cyanoptype printing and use that as a starting point for some of my imagery. The methodical cutting and arranging this technique demands complements the way I prefer to let an image grow organically and tap into unconscious influences. My work grows from my life-long fascination and close observation of the natural world with its ever-changing color relationships\, patterns and visual rhythms. Work is suggestive of my surroundings\, sometimes using color in way that reflects my emotional connection to a subject\, or is a more literal interpretation of my interaction and impressions of my surroundings. Ultimately\, I want my work to call attention to the small inconsequential things that can easily be overlooked and compel the viewer to see them in a new way.

SUMMARY:Divulgences – Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:I am very interested in trees. Their graceful lines bridge earth and sky\, and at a shrunken scale\, they resemble dendritic nerve cells in our brains and bronchioles in the lungs\, tiny “trees” inside our bodies.  \n\n\n\nRecently I was delighted to learn that trees communicate with each other. Trees partner with fungi to form mycorrhizal connections with their roots\, and this “wood wide web” sends and receives information and shared nutrient resources under the forest floor. They also send signals through the air via chemical messages. Visualizing this shared network fills my mind with thrilling possibilities\, real and imagined. \n\n\n\nMy drawings\, prints\, and paintings explore connections and communications between and within individuals. Landscapes become mindscapes. The divulgences of trees become linked with what we share with each other and how we connect to our ecosystem and our universe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nButton Text\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrooke Mullins Doherty’s sculptures\, drawings\, and prints have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. She has had solo shows at the New Bedford Art Museum\, S&G Project Gallery and Colo Colo Gallery in New Bedford\, Leslie Powell Gallery in Lawton\, Oklahoma\, Anderson Gallery at Bridgewater State University\, Frame 301 at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly\, Massachusetts\, 80 Border Street Cultural Exchange in East Boston\, and the Student Union Art Gallery at the University of Massachusetts. She has also created sculptural commissions for the Old Colony YMCA in Brockton\, Massachusetts; The Naked Oyster in Hyannis\, Massachusetts; Providence Community Acupuncture; and The Spot in Providence\, Rhode Island. \n\n\n\nCurrently residing in Fall River and teaching at Bristol Community College\, Lasell University\, Cape Cod Community College\, and the Community College of Rhode Island\, Brooke Mullins Doherty has also taught sculpture courses at the University of Massachusetts\, Dartmouth. \n\n\n\nBrooke Mullins Doherty was born in Lawton\, Oklahoma in 1981. She received her MFA in Sculpture from the of University of Massachusetts\, Dartmouth\, and her BFA in Studio Art from the University of Oklahoma. She also holds a BA in Philosophy and minors in Art History and Psychology from the University of Oklahoma.

SUMMARY:Beasts\, Trees\, Wind\, and Stone Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception\, Thursday\, June 9\, 6PM – 9PM \n\n\n\nHaving a primary job working a desk can be draining\, so\, I began searching for ways to escape the screens. I remembered as a kid taking family trips and the ones that stood out the most were my memories of New Hampshire. I loved being amongst the trees. It filled me with a sense of peace and awe. \n\n\n\nI downloaded an app which displayed a variety of hiking trails all around me and began to explore. Photography soon became a hobby of mine along these little adventures amongst Earth’s beauty. The mushrooms\, little leaves capturing the light just right\, and all other magical wonders that Mother Earth displayed as her works of art became my addiction. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlong some of these adventures I’d come across abandoned locations covered in greenery\, layers of decay\, and graffiti. The combination of these layers\, textures and greenery inspired the creation of Beasts\, Trees\, Wind and Stone. \n\n\n\nMy name is Chelsea Arruda and I created Rad Future as a reminder to live in the moment. The future we crave is happening right here\, right now\, in this very moment. \n\n\n\nYour Rad Future begins right now.
