SUMMARY:Integrated Gradients
DESCRIPTION:solo exhibition by Luke Bateman \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Integrated Gradients” An exploration of the interconnectedness of people\, objects\, and time. \n\n\n\nThe industrial revolution changed humanity forever. People left their homesteads and their small communities and formed larger more diverse cities. With each subsequent revolution art changed to suit the beliefs of the people. Modernism\, futurism\, brutalism\, and pop art are all products of the industrial world. \n\n\n\nWith the mass production of objects also came the mass produced mind and social engineering. The dulling down of a persons senses\, inhibitions\, individuality\, the creation of the perfect worker citizen\, a reliance on science\, and a greater focus on the world economy. \n\n\n\nThere are very few unique experiences\, if any. People are all generally the same. We eat\, we sleep\, we die\, these are the few things we can count on in life. Novel ideas are quickly disavowed once discovered to be unprofitable. We celebrate the minor variations between us\, and in our desperate attempts to find some sense of individuality within ourselves we forget what makes us the same. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLuke Bateman\, a New Bedford native\, has been creating and exhibiting works of art in New England since 2009. In 2021 Luke earned his BFA in Fine Art & Design from UMass Dartmouth. He currently works as an Ink Technician in the printing industry in Providence RI. \n\n\n\nMy work revolves around color\, people\, and history. I don’t want to lead peopletoo much in any one direction. Instead I offer them a moment of reflection andcontemplation and allow them to come to their own conclusions about art whether thatbe good\, bad\, or indifferent. I make something and tell a story and that’s it. I create color relations\, patterns\, and ways to integrate colors. My works are often modular and allow the owner of the piece to arrange them in whatever fashion they see fit.
