SUMMARY:Co-Creative Sessions: Cedric “Vice1” Douglas
DESCRIPTION:Cedric “Vise1” Douglas is Artist\, Designer\, Muralist\, and Social Interventionist he was born in Boston Massachusetts\, by immigrant parents from Jamaica. He received a BFA in Graphic Design from the Massachusetts College Of Art and Design. He currently resides in New Bedford Massachusetts with his art studio in Abington Massachusetts at the Arnold Shoe Factory. His first experience with public art was writing his name creatively on abandoned spaces.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2014 Cedric and his partner Julia Roth founded The Up Truck\, a mobile art lab designed to engage underserved communities\, Douglas is widely recognized for his large-scale social realism murals and portraits are highly regarded by a broad range of audiences\, and communities. His large-scale murals can be found throughout New England\, from New Bedford Mass\, to Port Au Prince\, Haiti. Douglas’s most recent public art project\, “Street Memorials” takes a hard look at racial injustice and its deadly impact on the black community\, while “The People’s Memorial Project” requires we rethink the future of memorials and monuments in the United States. Douglas’s commitment to the arts is exemplified by his volunteer work. He presently sits on the board and is an active member of multiple Boston-based art organizations including\, The Celebrity Series\, advisory committee\, and\, Mass Creative community engagement advisory committee. \n\n\n\nCo-Creative Sessions is a free and accessible online series geared to enrich\, educate and connect creatives through a series of workshops and training sessions. With a career switch to public school in the South Coast of MA\, she has been carving out more time to work on her art and build up her art business. Her favorite mediums are acrylics and watercolors and her inspiration for her own artwork comes from the ocean\, nature\, people\, music\, books\, and her dreams. When she is not teaching or painting/drawing\, she enjoys spending time with her son\, being outside in nature/by the ocean\, reading\, and jogging. She lives in Mattapoisett\, MA with her son and teaches art classes at a couple of different locations in the South Coast.

DESCRIPTION:In his first solo exhibition in over seven years\, John Jameson presents: “I Am Not My Season”\, a collection of over 40 paintings portraying the landscapes and seascapes of Southcoast Massachusetts. \n\n\n\n“I Am Not My Season” invites viewers to rekindle a mindful connection with the sublime spectacle of nature\, bear witness to the passing of time\, and find beauty despite encroaching climate anxiety. The lively\, realist paintings continue in the tradition of New England’s storied landscape artists (namely\, Windslow Homer\, Childe Hassam\, and New Bedford’s own Albert Pinkham Ryder). \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe show at the Co+Creative Center in historic downtown New Bedford begins on July 13\, 2023\, with an opening reception from 5 pm to 8 pm and concludes on August 10\, 2023 with an Artist Talk and Q&A\, followed by a closing reception\, from 5 pm to 8 pm.  \n\n\n\nOriginally from Somerset\, Massachusetts\, Jameson is a contemporary artist working in New Bedford who focuses on seascapes and portraiture as his primary subjects. Strong emphasis on color\, boldly organized compositions\, and rich networks of textured brushwork are hallmarks of Jameson’s work. His paintings have been shown in Boston\, New York\, Newport (Rhode Island)\, and Kamakura (Japan). \n\n\n\nJameson received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and his Master’s of Fine Arts from the New York Academy of Art. He has taught painting extensively at various institutions around Massachusetts. He currently teaches foundations drawing at North Shore Community College and landscape painting and color theory for artists\, as well as figure drawing from sculptures\, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. \n\n\n\nVisit Jameson’s website for more paintings\, as well as short videos on his process.
