SUMMARY:Beasts\, Trees\, Wind\, and Stone Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception\, Thursday\, June 9\, 6PM – 9PM \n\n\n\nHaving a primary job working a desk can be draining\, so\, I began searching for ways to escape the screens. I remembered as a kid taking family trips and the ones that stood out the most were my memories of New Hampshire. I loved being amongst the trees. It filled me with a sense of peace and awe. \n\n\n\nI downloaded an app which displayed a variety of hiking trails all around me and began to explore. Photography soon became a hobby of mine along these little adventures amongst Earth’s beauty. The mushrooms\, little leaves capturing the light just right\, and all other magical wonders that Mother Earth displayed as her works of art became my addiction. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlong some of these adventures I’d come across abandoned locations covered in greenery\, layers of decay\, and graffiti. The combination of these layers\, textures and greenery inspired the creation of Beasts\, Trees\, Wind and Stone. \n\n\n\nMy name is Chelsea Arruda and I created Rad Future as a reminder to live in the moment. The future we crave is happening right here\, right now\, in this very moment. \n\n\n\nYour Rad Future begins right now.

SUMMARY:Co-Creative Sessions: Drawing with the Figure
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, students will learn the tools of fundamental observation.  \n\n\n\nWe will take a look at how complex forms can be broken down into basic shapes\, learning about measuring tools\, and learn about the world of light and shadow properties to model those forms. We will take a look at other artists works to see how they explored shape\, tone and mark making to capture aspects of their world.  \n\n\n\nStudents will walk away with a small set of completed studies of still life and nature. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCo-Creative Sessions is a free and accessible online series geared to enrich\, educate and connect creatives through a series of workshops and training sessions. New Bedford is the home of artists\, creatives\, change makers\, designers\, entrepreneurs and community enthusiasts and the Co-Creative Session embraces the pulse that makes New Bedford so unique while expanding our knowledge and connections! \n\n\n\nFunded by MassDevelopment/TDI and the Barr Foundation\, this program is one component of a broader “TDI Creative Cities” initiative to boost arts-based economic development. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKat Knutsen is an artist based in New Bedford with a background in drawing\, painting and animation. We will explore that inquiry through sketches basics of gestural forms in combination of with Gestalt principles. We will build a sketch for a drawing that symbolically reflects our findings. \n\n\n\nMaterials: Sketchbook. mark making material that can be edited (graphite\, Charcoal\, or digital) Eraser \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCo-Creative Sessions is a free and accessible online series geared to enrich\, educate and connect creatives through a series of workshops and training sessions. Her work has always teetered between illustration and fine art. She incorporates metaphors and symbolisms into her work that reflect both micro and macrocosm in her life observations.  \n\n\n\nKat moved to New Bedford MA in 2012 to study her MFA in painting and decided to stay in New Bedford when she saw the opportunity to expand her research through teaching at Bristol Community College.

DESCRIPTION:Paintings inspired by Iva Brito’s book of poetry Essence\, Tones\, Whispers\, and Shouts \n\n\n\n\n\nA licensed social worker\, Iva holds a Master’s of Science degree from UMASS – Boston. She also completed her advanced graduate studies in Expressive Arts in Holistic Counseling at Salve Regina University.   An award-winning author\, artist\, and poet\, she is the recipient of several distinguished leadership awards. \n\n\n\nIva understands and lives with the knowledge that our humanity is our birthright and healing is our process.  \n\n\n\nHer indigenous roots are from her native land of Cabo Verde\, West Africa. Performing and speaking throughout the country\, she shares her culturally diverse heritage through a wellspring of love. \n\n\n\nIva serves as a commissioner on the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women and served as the inaugural Director of Bristol Community College Women’s Center.   \n\n\n\nIva’s multifaceted experiences led her to launch Iva Brito Consultancy (IBC Inc.). Iva Brito Consultancy is on a mission to advance indigenous women throughout the world. It is committed and dedicated to fostering the healing of women from the detrimental effects of colonialism and moving people forward globally.
