The title Gone Fishing suggest 2 things; to drop out, day dream (and paint), or set sail and steam out to Georges Bank to fish. Troy has done both. Born and raised in New Bedford to 2 Norwegian immigrant parents, who migrated to New Bedford in the 50s. Both parents come from a long history of seafaring people. Troy’s earliest memories were formed on Pier 3 and the shipyards of Fairhaven. Either tagging along with his father Captain Soren or waiting for him to return to port. At the age of 11 Troy began going out to sea, with his father during the summer. At age 16 he quit school to fish full time and did so till the age of 30.
While living in Boston, at the age of 26, Troy discovered the magic of painting and painted while fishing. At 30 he quit fishing to pursue painting full time. At 36 he moved to Paris to expand on his creativity. In Paris he painted on the streets and quickly formed a partnership with Gallery W, who he has been with since. For the last 24 years he has produced a prolific body of work, amassed collectors from all over the world and has enjoyed a successful career as an artist, musician and writer.
Having started his journey in New Bedford, it is only fitting that he has come full circle to where he started. ‘In these paintings i seek to investigate the beauty of nature and man, and honor our heritage, while being inspired by the waterfront and its people. I am proud to be from New Bedford. Troy Henriksen
